Travel Carry-On Beauty Essentials

If you have been following my blog for a long time, you might be surprised to see a beauty post. Its been ages since I have written anything in regards to makeup because, quite simply, I’m just not a beauty blogger. I’m a travel blogger all the way. I do enjoy wearing some makeup, though, and I think that I finally have my travel makeup bag perfected (after all of the trips I’ve been on its about time! haha). So if you are curious about what I take in my carry-on, this beauty post is for you!

LUSH or ‘Yes’ Lotions

Skincare is something I like to switch up every few weeks. My skin has a tendency of getting used to a product and then disliking it, so I rotate through my skincare items periodically. Two lotions that I always return to, however, are Yes to Carrots Fragrance Free Intense Hydration Night Cream and LUSH’s Skin Drink Moisturizer. These both do a wonderful job of keeping my skin moist and fresh when I travel (plane air is so dehydrating!) and they work nicely under my makeup as they are not too sticky, soak in well, and do not irritate my sensitive skin.

Tarte Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer

No matter what makeup look I am going for or how I switch up my beauty routine, my Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer always follows my face cream. I absolutely love how smooth this Tarte product makes my skin feel and how well it works as a base for my foundation. It does a great job of evening out skin tone and I don’t even need a primer if I have this on. Not to mention, it has an SPF of 20. This is an absolute life saver for me as I am allergic to most sunscreens, but not this one! So believe me, my travel carry-on always has a Tarte BB Moisturizer inside!

bareMinerals barePRO Performance Wear Foundation

BareMinerals has always been my go-to for foundations. I just love how gentle their foundations are with my sensitive skin and how beautiful/build-able the coverage is. BareMinerals has a nice range of foundations to choose from (I actually wrote a post about different ones here) and I have enjoyed using each of them. Currently, however, my favorite is the barePro Performance Wear Foundation. It is a little bit dewier than their Original Powder Foundation, is hypoallergenic, and is composed of 90% vitamins and minerals. It is also stored in a nice little compact which has a magnetic closure, a big mirror, and holds a sponge underneath the powder. The barePro Foundation is the perfect compact for travel!

Blushes and Bronzers

When it comes to makeup, I am definitely not that girl who tries every new product and has hundreds of makeup items in her vanity drawers (not that there is anything wrong with that of course!). I mean, I do like looking pretty and enjoy perusing Ulta and Sephora aisles on occasion. However, I’m just not that experimental with beauty products. If I like something I am going to keep using it for years. So I’d never make a good beauty blogger haha. One area that I have enjoyed branching out more with my makeup, though, is in regards to blushes and bronzers for vacations to warm places. When I know I’m going to get a tan, I like to make sure I have dark enough bronzers and blushes to highlight my cheek bones. Right now I’m loving the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer and Milani’s 05 Luminoso Baked Blush.

Urban Decay’s Naked Basics Palette

Just like every other part of my makeup, I like to have very natural looking eyebrows. I cannot stand for them to look bold and like I drew them on. Instead, I use an eyeshadow that is a few shades lighter than my eyebrows. This fills them in and makes them look perfect without appearing like I’m wearing a bunch of product. So far, my favorite shades for this is are the “Naked2” and “Faint” shadows from the Naked Basics Palette. I also really like this palette because its neutral colored eyeshadows match my skin perfectly and give long lasting wear – perfect for long flights that make me look haggard!

Makeup Brushes

Obviously, no travel makeup kit is complete without applicators. I like to use Ulta sponges and makeup brushes from bareMinerals and Eco Tools. And if I could only pick one makeup brush to take in my carry-on, it would be my Eco Tools Retractable Kabuki Brush that I use for foundation. I wish all brushes came in packaging like that one! Since the brush is retractable, I can put it anywhere and not worry about it getting dirty or spreading makeup throughout my bags. Best travel brush ever!

bareMinerals Lash Domination Mascara

Another bareMinerals product that I have been really loving is their newer mascara – the Revamped Lash Domination Volumizing Mascara. This eye product is an intense black, has very long lasting wear, and, like all of their makeup, it is formulated with ingredients that do not irritate my skin. So I have no problem wearing this on long haul flights. It’s a great travel mascara!

NARS Lipgloss and BURT’S BEES Lipstick

I own a whopping total of four lip products. So many, I know. ???? Lip products are just something I am extremely picky about. I hate anything that feels like honey gluing my lips together and I only like shades that go with my natural makeup look. So really, its no surprise that I only own four haha. These favorites of mine include three Burt’s Bees Lipsticks (500 Nile Nude, 501 Blush Basin, and 510 Iced Iris) and a NARS Lipstick in the shade Tasmania. They are all beautiful and give long lasting wear. I cannot imagine traveling without them (especially the Nile Nude and Tasmania)!

travelWhat about you? Have you tried any of these products? What’s in your travel carry-on? Let me know in the comments!

You might have noticed that a couple products I listed were not in the photos. That’s not because I don’t have them. The packaging on those products just looks old from using them so much and wouldn’t look pretty in the pictures 🙂

You’ve got your makeup bag perfected, especially for travelling. I need to try out those Burts lipsticks, think the are still relatively new to the UK so need to hunt them down soon x

I love seeing what beauty products other people take away with them when travelling! This is also about how much I take with me; I love the lipstick inclusions – long-wearing shades are essential when travelling 🙂
